PRO DIVE Brookvale gerapporteerd door Ben De Groot

Some days Sydney gives you a little bit of everything. Saturday was definitely one of those days. Our first dive at Magic Point started with excellent 15–20 metre visibility and wonderfully easy conditions. Port Jackson Sharks and Wobbegongs were scattered around the site, an Eastern Blue Devil was tucked beneath the sandstone, and schools of Yellowtail filled the water. But for a few very lucky divers, the highlight was something considerably less common — a Mola mola, or Ocean Sunfish, cruising around the site. Meanwhile, Eric managed a rather different discovery: a shiny stainless-steel anchor lying on the bottom. What followed was a successful recovery operation, and Eric is apparently taking his new treasure home to become a rather impressive garden ornament. 😄

The visibility looked a little suspect on the way down to Magic Point, but once we reached the bottom we were greeted with a beautiful clear blue 15–20m — a very pleasant surprise. Grey nurse sharks were cruising around the site, with one giving one of my divers a particularly close encounter. He was busy looking elsewhere when a quick touch on the fin and a pointed finger had him looking up just in time to see a majestic grey nurse cruise straight past. Port Jacksons and wobbegongs were also out and about, while hundreds of schooling yellowtails moving amongst the sandstone boulders and walls made for a fantastic Sydney underwater scene.

Another beautiful sunny winter's day aboard Sea Life V, although underwater Sydney had decided to make us work a little harder, with visibility sitting around five metres. But poor visibility certainly didn't dampen the spirits aboard. Once divers are on the boat, most of us simply want to get wet! Our first dive was Magic Point. With the visibility making it difficult to see whether any Grey Nurse Sharks were hanging around the main cave, we headed east for an explore. The local Blue Grouper soon joined us and followed along, while schools of fish moving through the low light produced a fantastic sight. Our torch beams reflected from their silver bodies, creating what looked like a shimmering curtain passing through the water. Eventually we headed back towards the main cave for one last look. And that's when Magic Point provided the surprise of the day. Out of the low visibility suddenly appeared a Grey Nurse Shark, cruising straight towards me before calmly turning immediately

Cracking conditions at Magic Point today with 15m vis and the grey nurse aggregation putting on a show. Six greys cruising the cave, Port Jacksons and a wobbie on the bottom, and a rare treat with an Eastern Blue Devil out and about rather than tucked away in a crevice. Saturday delivered another enjoyable winter's day aboard Sea Life V, with visibility improving to 10–15 metres and plenty of marine life waiting below. The day began with a special celebration as we congratulated Alexandro, visiting from Spain, on reaching an incredible milestone—his 300th dive! A fantastic achievement and one made even more memorable by spending it beneath the waters of Sydney. Our first dive at Magic Point certainly lived up to expectations. Around five Grey Nurse Sharks cruised gracefully around the site, while several Wobbegongs rested beneath the sandstone ledges. Schools of fish filled the water column, making for a classic Magic Point dive. Congratulations once again to Alexandro on your 300th dive. Thank you for choosing to celebrate such a special milestone with the Sea Life V crew—we hope it's one you'll always remember.
